(Arnolds Park)– The annual Okoboji Summer Job Fair is now just a few weeks away. The event is organized by Okoboji High School Principal Brian Downing. He says this year’s event will be held Friday, April 4th from 8:30 am until 11:30 am at the Roof Garden in Arnolds Park…
“The event has grown and grown each year. We regularly get 50 or more businesses that participate. So far I think we have somewhere over 30 that are signed up and we’ll do a push here these last three weeks and some of those businesses that aren’t there yet will probably get on board. But it’s great to see some of the same businesses come back year after year and each year we have some new ones join us as well.”
Downing says students not only from Okoboji but from throughout the region are urged to attend the event…
“In the past we’ve had some students join us from Lake Park; we’ve had students from Graettinger-Terril, Ruthven-Ayrshire; Spencer has sent some students as well as Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn. We invite all of the Dickinson county schools, anyone really that would be within driving distance of the lakes area, for a summer job.”
Downing says there’s still time for businesses to get signed up…
“And if there’s any businesses that would like to get signed up, the easiest thing to do is to just go to Okobojischools.org, our school website, and right at the top you’ll see a link to our sign-up form with information and that’s how you can get involved. There’s no cost to the businesses at all.”
He adds it’s a real win-win for the businesses needing summer help, and school kids who are looking for a summer job…
“We have made some great matches. I’m old enough now where several of my own kids have gotten jobs through the job fair and a lot of those jobs have continued year after year. We’ve even gotten some former students that we see now at the job fair recruiting students to jobs that they started out at when they were in school.”
This will mark the 9th year for the Okoboji Summer Job Fair.
