Okoboji Performing Arts Presents “Home For The Holidays” Concert

December 10, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– Okoboji Performing Arts holds its annual holiday concert this Sunday, December 15th at 3:00 pm at First Lutheran Church in Milford. Director Jessica Schable says it’s titled “Home For The Holidays”…

“I will be performing as well as Jennifer Johnson, an amazing pianist. She also has a beautiful voice. Tyler Pedersen, he’s the band director in Spirit Lake but also a musician and a fabulous performer; and John Moore who is one of my business partners with Okoboji Performing Arts and he sings opera all around the world. So he’ll be back to perform with us as well on the concert. So it’s a pretty good line-up.”

She says there will also be a reception…

“Afterwards we’ll have cake and cider and just kind of just a fun afternoon to hear some good holiday music and mingle with some friends and enjoy the holiday season.”

Schable says admission for Sunday’s concert will be a freewill donation with proceeds going toward programming for Okoboji Performing Arts…

“We are really excited to be working with, I think we’ll be working with the Okoboji Elementary 4th graders to write their own musical starting in January, so that’s always a fun adventure. You don’t really know what’s going to come from that, but they’ll actually be performing that I believe in April, so we’re working on details of that. And then we’re really excited to be bringing in three people from New York City to do a program with us on I believe April 3rd and 4th. We’re still solidifying dates and everything there but I think that’s what we settled on. Two out of the three people have actually been in Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. One of the men actually was a phantom in Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. Lovely people. The woman, I think, has covered different roles in Phantom and they both were in the show for quite awhile. And the third person works at a really fancy performing arts school in New York City, so they’ve got some pretty cool qualifications behind them but they will be coming here to do some school outreach programs. I’m hoping to get them into Spencer, Spirit Lake and Okoboji and maybe bring some surrounding schools in and so we’re still working on details but we’ll also be holding a community concert.”
