Okoboji High School Students create nonprofit to help Challenged Kids play Baseball and Softball

April 13, 2022 Becky Thoreson

(Milford)-An Okoboji High School student group is working to create a nonprofit organization. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

Students in the No Boundaries Project at Okoboji High School are creating a nonprofit organization to help kids with disabilities learn baseball and softball.

Junior Olivia Tuttle explains. “For our No Boundaries class, we had one of the Board Members of the Okoboji Youth Softball & Baseball Association come to us and talk to us about a problem that they thought we had in the community, and this problem was that she didn’t feel that we have very many opportunities for kids with physical and mental disabilities to be able to play sports in our area. So, I was very passionate about this along with the other members of my group, so we have been working toward creating a nonprofit for this and we have a name for it. It’s called Northwest Iowa All-Inclusive League. We have business letters sent out and our registration opened for our tournament day, which is on June 5th at noon.”

She notes that registration is open to area students. “For players, anyone can register, and we want anyone who wants to play to be able to play. K-12 is about the age range that we’re looking for players. For volunteers, we are looking for kids 13 and up who would like to volunteer and help out, and for coaches, we are looking for kids ages 16 and up.”
