(Emmetsburg)– Okoboji High School senior Luke Clifford was the first place winner of the Marine Service Technology contest of Iowa SkillsUSA.
The event qualifies students to compete in the national contest held June 22-26 in Kansas City. Students who compete in state and national competitions are eligible for prizes and college scholarships.
The Marine Service Technology competition included a written test of general service knowledge and skill demonstrations of various diagnosis and repair procedures. The skill portion of the contest focused on outboard and sterndrive drivability, diagnosis and repair, component removal and installation and service information. Evaluation was based upon skill, procedure, accuracy and safety.
Clifford is a student in the Iowa Lakes Community College Marine Technology Career Academy on the Emmetsburg campus. The academy enables students to earn college and high school credit. Students who enroll in the Iowa Lakes program following high school graduation qualify for advanced status.
