Water rates in the City of Okoboji are officially on the way up, again. The City Council approved a measure Tuesday that will increase rates from the current $64 per quarter to $94 per quarter. That measure will take effect July 1, and is based on the first 10,000 gallons of water used. The ordinance will also call for a significant rise in the cost per 1,000 gallons of water beyond the first 10,000. As it stands now, residents pay $2.10 extra, however, beginning April 1, that will jump to $6.16.
Okoboji City Adminstrator Dennis Daly explains the reason for the rise in water rates for a third consecutive year as a measure to offset costs incurred through projects in recent years.
The council also began discussion on the proposed city budget for the upcoming fiscal year. As it stands, the city’s tax levy would increase roughly $.92 to $4.92 per thousand dollars.
