(Milford)– Another area school district is responding following last week’s school shooting in Perry, Iowa. In a letter to district patrons, officials with the Okoboji Community Schools say they are continually working to address security concerns. They say that includes ongoing ALICE, or Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate drills. The letter states that such a training session for staff is planned for January 15th.
The letter goes on to say that additional cameras and lighting are being installed and that the Okoboji Community Schools will be implementing what’s known as the “Raptor System”. School officials say it will allow personnel to screen visitors and track their entry and exit from buildings.
They add that steps are also being taken to reconfigure vestibules at the elementary and high school buildings.
The letter also states that the Okoboji Community School District has invested time, money and resources into identifying students who may be struggling with mental health issues.
