Okoboji City Council Sets Bidletting Date For Stakeout Road Project

April 10, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Okoboji)– The Okoboji City Council this (Tues.) evening set a date for a bidletting on a major road project. City Administrator Michael Meyers says it will involve Stakeout Road…

“The majority of the project is going to be a mill and overlay of Stakeout Road from essentially Highway 71 up to where the blacktop ends, meets the concrete right there on the north side. A small portion of that will be a full reconstruction of the road from essentially Chalstrom Beach north, but the rest of it will be a mill and overlay. That project not only includes a mill and overlay but we will extend the shoulder of that road on the north side several feet. It’s not a bike lane, it’s not a pedestrian lane, but it is a very wide extended shoulder that we’re going to provide. As part of that we’ll clear a lot of the trees and brush there along that curve, too. It not only benefits our project but we’ll also open up side lines and increase visibility of that whole area.”

Meyers says work on the heavily traveled road won’t begin until after Labor Day…

“That will not be in conflict with the highway stuff. We’ve already talked with the Iowa D.O.T on that so we’re good there. It’s about a five to six week project in which case it would be a hard closure of that stretch of Stakeout Road with the exception of local traffic, but we hope to get in there, get it done, and get out of there.”

The city will receive bids on the project May 9th. The council will act on them at their meeting May 14th.
