Okoboji City Council Holds Hearing On Max Budget Levy

February 15, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Okoboji)– The Okoboji City Council Tuesday evening voted to set the city’s maximum levy rate for the upcoming fiscal year at $4.75 per one thousand dollars of valuation, the same as it’s been the past several years. City Administrator Michael Meyers says the budget for the upcoming fiscal year will pave the way for some significant projects down the road…

“Potential street improvements around Stakeout Road and Exchange Street. We’re talking about doing some engineering for that, engineering in ’24 and possible construction in ’25. And then I think perhaps most importantly is some engineering work for a potential trail on Sanborn Avenue. I think that’s something that’s been talked about for years now. It’s been brought up by many, many, residents who want to see a trail to help service not only Speier Park but all the way down to Highway 71. Obviously we’ve got a lot of families and young people who live near Julia and Eloise Streets and we want to make sure those folks can traverse that street safely.”

The Okoboji City Council Tuesday approved the levy rate following a hearing that drew no public comment. It means the levy in the final budget for the upcoming fiscal year can go lower than that, but cannot go any higher.
