(Okoboji)– The city of Okoboji is about to expand its boundary northward.
The City Development Board has approved a voluntary annexation proposal that includes land along 213th Avenue between Pikes Point State Park and the Bay Rym Condominiums.
80 percent of those who live in that area signed a petition seeking the voluntary annexation. The majority of those who signed the petition stated they wanted into the city so they no longer have to pay a higher rate for water. Some also expressed a desire of having an Okoboji address.
The annexation proposal drew opposition from township and county officials, which will lose out on the taxable valuation on the 13.4 acres of land.
The county does not plan to appeal the Development Board’s action.
