Officials Say It’s A Wonder No One Was Hurt In Head-On Crash During Saturday’s Snow Storm

November 22, 2014

(Hartley)– Officials say it’s a wonder no one was hurt in a head-on crash on Highway 18 in Clay county during Saturday’s snow storm.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 45-year-old Jodi Smith of Primghar was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban westbound when she lost control. The vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2005 Ford pickup driven by 54-year-old Bradley Schmidt of Hartley. The Suburban driven by Smith came to rest on the road; the pickup driven by Schmidt traveled into a field before coming to a stop.

The Suburban driven by Smith was totaled; $15,000 in damage was estimated to the pickup driven by Schmidt.

Smith was cited for failure to maintain control.

The crash took place shortly after 5:00 p.m. Saturday.
