November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Those who head out to some of the more popular beaches in the Iowa Great Lakes this 4th of July may notice something a bit peculiar. Not only will those beaches be teaming with people looking to stay cool, but you’re also likely to notice some people combing those same beaches looking for signs of bacteria.

Steve Anderson, an Urban Conservationist with the Soil and Water Conservation District, tells KUOO news that group is teaming up with some others in the lakes area to conduct the sampling…(click here for comment from Anderson.)

Anderson says they wanted to pick a day when they were certain there would be a lot of usage at the beaches, and he says the 4th of July would be it…(click here for comment from Anderson.)

Anderson says no beaches in the Iowa Great Lakes so far this season have had warnings posted for having high bacteria levels.
