Officials Emphasizing Importance Of Safety With Several Hunting Seasons Underway

October 16, 2025

(Undated)– Hunting season is beginning to kick into high gear around the region and that has officials reminding everyone to play it safe. Emma Wehking is a Conservation Officer with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. For starters, she reminds hunters it’s important to be seen and to make sure you have permission before venturing onto private land…

“Ultimately it’s up to that farmer to decide if they’re going to allow hunters out there or not and that’s why we suggest everyone when they’re out small game hunting wears bright blaze orange so everybody knows where everyone else is at when they’re looking out in the fields.”

As Wehking mentioned, it’s also important to respect individual property owners and to not trespass…

“Respect everybody’s land and the opportunities they do give the public for going out on their land. I know some people will see a really nice buck out there and it’s tempting to take it, but that would become trespass issues and ultimately you don’t want to step on everybody’s toes so you can continue to enjoy these hunting seasons and get out in areas where you would love to go hunt.”

Wehking adds hunters are required to have firearms safety training and to have the necessary licenses and permits. She says you also need to be aware of limits and possession limits and to use caution and obey regulations with all-terrain and off-road-vehicles.
