Officials Continuing To Assess Damage From Sunday’s Fire In Downtown Spencer

January 24, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– No word yet on a possible cause into that fire Sunday in downtown Spencer. It broke out in a building at 221 Grand Avenue around 12:30 pm. Heavy fire damage was reported to several apartments on the upper level, while several businesses on the lower level sustained considerable smoke and water damage. Three people were taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. They have since been released.

Spencer Fire Chief Jon Conyn tells news partner KTIV they spent the better part of the day Monday assessing the damage…

“I do believe that they’ll have a strong opportunity to be re-businessed in that location. At least that is what I hope. As far as impact, I think the impact is felt throughout our community and throughout the business owners of main street, or Grand Avenue.”

The American Red Cross is helping those from five of the 10 apartments that were impacted by the fire.
