Officials Concerned Over Bill They Say Would Take Away Local Control Over Locations Of Wind & Solar Farms

March 04, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– A bill in the Iowa Legislature that would take away local zoning control over things such as wind and solar farms is drawing the attention of local officials. Senate File 376 was a topic of discussion at today’s (Tues.) Dickinson County Board of Superisors meeting. Supervisor Steve Clark is among those expressing concern about the bill…

“I kind of warned about this in the last two and-a-half years a number of times to different people that the state is going to look at this real closely and see whether they think that the counties are being too restrictive on the development of new industrial business, and they consider this industrial business. And whether we like it or not, that’s the direction they’re moving.”

Clark is urging those with concerns to contact Senators Mike Bousselot of Polk county and Mike Klemish of Winneshiek county, who are sponsoring the bill. A subcommittee hearing on the bill is being held today (Tues.) at the statehouse in Des Moines.
