Office Merger Proposal Will NOT Appear On November Ballot In Dickinson County

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Efforts to put a measure on the ballot with the November General Election asking voters whether or not the Dickinson County Auditor and Recorder Offices should be combined have failed.

In an email late this afternoon, Mardi Allen, a major supporter and distributor of the petition calling for the votes, said it fell short of needed signatures by “approximately 231”. It needed atleastĀ 1,508 signatures.

The deadline to obtain the required number of signatures was 5:00 p.m. today (Friday).

The proposal sparked considerable controversy among proponents who said it would result in a savings to the county’s taxpayers, and those who opposed it, saying any cost savings would be offset by inefficiencies that would be created by merging the two offices.
