(Spirit Lake)– Next week marks the observance of National 4-H Week. Locally, Dickinson County Extension Youth Coordinator Fallon Jensen says there are two 4-H chapters in Spirit Lake, and one each in Milford and Lake Park. She says they offer programs that cover wide range of interests…
“Like we will have the Global Grub Club again where kids get to come and learn about different countries and do different cuisines. We also have our STEM Club and with that STEM Club they get to learn about some hands-on challenges with robotics, A I, engineering, and science. One that I’m really excited about this year is we have an Outdoor Adventure Club so we are going to go ahead and do outdoor activities throughout Dickinson county, what they have to offer. We’ll look at outdoor cooking, fire starting, hiking, snowshoeing, and a bunch of other activities, so. Those I’m really looking forward to this year.”
Jensen says they’ll have special events throughout the week next week to commemorate National 4-H Week beginning Monday with Go Green…
“Everybody should wear green and show off their 4-H spirit and then take a photo of it and post it online and tag us. Tuesday we will have a popcorn bar at the office so you can stop by our Dickinson County Extension Office anywhere from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm and we’ll have a bunch of stuff for snacks. Wednesday we are going to do 4-H Make and Take Bags. What that will look like is a bunch of little projects that they can do in bags and pick up and take those. That will be while supplies last. And then Thursday we will have a 4-H For Good. So join us in giving back, participating in a community service project or doing a random act of kindness. Just share your good deed and help spread the word of 4-H spirit.”
The theme this year for National 4-H Week is “Beyond Ready”. You can find more information at extension.iastate.edu/dickinson/.
