(Primghar)—The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office is mounting a fundraising campaign for a K-9 program it’s starting up.
Officials say the contributions will be used solely for that program and to cover associated expenses such as food, veterinarian services, training and certifications and equipment. They say the Labrador retriever would be trained in narcotics and tracking.
Sheriff Michael Anderson says having the K-9 would assist in efforts to curb a growing problem of drug trafficking on Highways 60, 18 and 59.
He adds the K-9 would also assist in the search for loss individuals and would help deputies executing search warrants on buildings and vehicles.
Anderson says their initial fundraising goal has been set at $16,000.
Contributions can be made out to the O’Brien County K9 Fund and may be sent to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, P.O. Box 260, Primghar…51245.
