O’Brien County Crash Injures One (1)

November 22, 2014

(Sanborn)– The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office has released details into a two-vehicle crash last Friday near Sanborn that sent one person to the hospital.

Deputies say 29-year-old Cory Sickelka of Sutherland was pulling a livestock trailer westbound on Highway 18 and 23-year-old Jason Vander Berg of Sanborn was northbound on a county road and was unable to stop due to a broken brake line. A 2001 Dodge pickup Vander Berg was driving then collided with a 2007 Ford pickup driven by Sickelka. Both vehicles and the livestock trailer wound up in the north ditch.

Vander Berg was taken to Sanford Sheldon Hospital by the Sanborn ambulance where he was treated for non-incapacitating injuries. No injuries were reported to Sickelka.

Vander Berg was cited for a defective braking system.

$12,000 in damage was estimated to the pickup Sickelka was driving; the pickup driven by Vander Berg was estimated at $5,000; damage to the 2008 Wilson livestock trailer was put at $3,000.

The crash took place around 3:45 p.m.

The Sanborn Police Department, Sanborn Fire Department and ambulance, Sanborn Street Department, several individuals and workers with Don’s Co-op assisted the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office on the scene.
