August 08, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Primghar)– A Storm Lake man died in a two-vehicle accident in O’Brien County this weekend.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the mishap occurred shortly before 2pm Saturday just east of Primghar. 66-year-old Mark Kirkholm was traveling westbound on county road B-40. 56-year-old Laurie Banks of Sutherland was traveling northbound on county road L-54. Banks failed to yield at a stop sign and struck Kirkholm’s vehicle on the driver side. Kirkholm’s vehicle entered the ditch and rolled at least once. Kirkholm was partially ejected from the vehicle, as he was not wearing a seat belt.

Kirkholm was pronounced dead at the scene. Banks was injured, and was transported to the MercyOne Hospital in Primghar.
