(Primghar)– A traffic stop last week in O’Brien county resulted in the arrests of two Omaha men on drug charges.
The Sheriff’s Office says a deputy pulled over a vehicle around 5:00 p.m. Friday on Highway 18 about three and-a-half miles west of Sanborn.
Upon investigating some suspicious activity by an occupant in the vehicle, the deputy turned up three and-a-quarter pounds of what’s alleged to be processed marijuana in the vehicle.
Deputies also determined the passenger gave them a false name. Upon further investigation deputies obtained the correct name of the individual and determined that the subject was wanted on a federal arrest warrant out of Omaha.
The driver, 62-year-old Harold Taylor of Omaha, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance…a serious misdemeanor.
The passenger, 31-year-old Edward Smith of Omaha, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and failure to affix a drug tax stamp…both are class “D” felonies.
Smith was also arrested on the federal warrant for a charge of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of crack cocaine.
Taylor and Smith were both booked into the O’Brien county jail. Bond for Smith was set at $10,000. Taylor was being held on $1,000 bond.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in its investigation by the Sanborn Police Department, The Iowa State Patrol and the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team.
