NW Iowa RSVP Has New Coordinator

October 30, 2025

(Spencer)– The Northwest Iowa RSVP, or Retired Senior Volunteer Program, will hold a public meet and greet with new director Mari (Mary) Duncan from on November 10th from 9:30 to 11:00 am at the Spencer Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College. Duncan started in her new role in September and is looking forward to meeting people and telling them about the program…

“My role in Clay County is to grow the program. It has not been represented very well in the last couple of years so we want to try to recruit some more volunteers in Clay County and get some more people active.”

The meet and greet will take place on the Iowa Lakes Community college campus in Spencer in room 108 from 9:30 to 11:00. Duncan explains what the group does…

“We match volunteers with their skills and activities that interest them with projects that they are interested in. We have well over four hundred and eighty volunteers here in these five counties, and we have basically a buffet of opportunities where they can go and volunteer. And what we do is find what interest them, and we give them places to go.”

Duncan says volunteering is important for everyone…

“Several studies have shown that people are healthier and live longer if they are out and volunteering or it’s more social. It’s better for your health and to get out and meet people and do things. I was a volunteer for a long time, and I know that it didn’t just make me feel better, it was good for my soul, you know, I enjoyed it. It was good for me all the way around.”

Northwest Iowa RSVP is part of the national AmeriCorps Senior program and matches volunteers with opportunities that meet critical community needs. If you would like more information you can contact duncan at mduncan@iowalakes.edu or call her at 712-580-8652.
