NW Iowa Man Sentenced On Federal Meth Charges

September 26, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Sioux City)– A northwest Iowa man has been sentenced in federal court after pleading guilty to meth charges.

35-year-old Zackary Smith of Pearson was sentenced Friday to a little more than 11 years in federal prison in a meth conspiracy case.

Smith pled guilty in April of this year to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Evidence at plea and sentencing hearings showed that from August 2018 through April 18th, 2019, Smith and others conspired to distribute more than 11 pounds of methamphetamine in Cherokee county. In April of 2019 law enforcement executed a search warrant at a residence in rural Cherokee county where they seized 1.5 pounds of pure meth. Smith was also found at that time flushing about 10 ounces of methamphetamine down a toilet before officers could seize it.

Smith also admitted to traveling with co-conspirators to Omaha to obtain the drug for distribution in northwest Iowa.
