(Sioux City)– A northwest Iowa man has been sentenced on a federal firearms charge.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa says 29-year-old Taxavier Ford of Alta was sentenced Thursday to 30 years in prison to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Ford was previously convicted in Indiana of possession of a narcotic drug back in 2017, and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of a firearm by a felon in Buena Vista county in 2021. Evidence at court hearings showed that on March 14th of last year police in Storm Lake pulled over a vehicle Ford was driving and could smell marijuana. A search turned up a loaded firearm in Ford’s waistline. The prior convictions made it illegal for him to be carrying the weapon.
