(Linn Grove)– A 61-year-old northwest Iowa man has drowned on the Little Sioux River.
The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office says the incident was reported around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Witnesses told authorities that the victim, Robert Wiese of Greenville, went into the river while working with a boat and never resurfaced.
Rescuers found Wiese’s body about a half mile downstream about two hours later.
Authorities say Wiese and his small boat were swept away by the current as he was trying to unload the boat.
Officials say it’s another reminder of the swift current in most area streams and rivers, which continue to run at or near bankful.
