NW Iowa Jazz, Concert Bands Holding A Concert This (Mon. 11/17) This Evening

November 17, 2025

(Estherville)– The Northwest Iowa Jazz and Concert Bands will hold their holiday concert this (Mon.) evening at the VFW in Estherville. Rich Nicklay, Director of the Northwest Iowa Concert Band, says the concert is free and begins at 7:30 pm…

“It’s kind of a special night for the jazz band because this is 40 years they have been in existence. They were started by Scott Benjamin, owner of the Little Swan Lake Winery, and he’s been directing the band since he started it in 1985 and think about that, that’s 40 years of leading the band, and the concert band has been going just one year longer than that.”

Nicklay says members come from throughout the region…

“We have members from 14 different towns, right in the local area, here, all the way as far away as Humboldt, Algona and we have some from Jackson. The ages of the members range from 25-years-old up to 75-years-old, so it kind of shows that music is for anyone at any age still.”

The Estherville VFW will also be serving a meal this (Mon.) evening beginning at 6:00 pm and continuing through the concert.

Nicklay says they’re grateful to Excel! Estherville for their partial sponsorship of the bands.
