Not Everyone Abiding By Burn Ban

(Spirit Lake)– Even though burning bans have been in effect several days now in several counties including Dickinson, not everyone is abiding by them.

The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Department was called Tuesday to put out a brush fire someone had lit on Lakeshore Drive in Okoboji. And Thursday Spirit Lake David Kollasch says he had to put out a leaf fire in the Francis Sites area…Click here to hear mp3 file
Violators of the burning ban can be cited for a misdemeanor, punishable by a sizable fine.

Kollasch adds the ban includes ANY and ALL types of fires, including recreational ones…even those in backyard fire pits…Click here to hear mp3 file

Burning bans remain in effect until further notice for Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Plymouth and Sioux counties in northwest Iowa. Bans or restrictions on open burning are also in place in most counties in southwest Minnesota.
