(Spencer)—The Iowa State Patrol has released details into a two-vehicle crash last Thursday at the North Y, or the north junction of highways 18 and 71 in Spencer, that sent six people to the hospital.
Troopers say 41-year-old Kristina Heisinger of Spencer was westbound on County Road B-19 and had stopped at a stop sign at Highway 71 when she pulled into the path of a northbound vehicle driven by 65-year-old George Shelton of Spencer.
Heisinger and a passenger in his vehicle, eight-year-old Ellie Heisinger, were both taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital, along with Shelton and four passengers in his vehicle, Beverly Shelton…age unknown; 43-year-old Dana Shelton; 11-year-old Andrew Shelton were all taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital where they were treated for what was termed as non-incapacitating injuries.
$5,500 in damage was estimated to a 2003 Ford Windstar driven by Heisinger; damage to a 2001 Ford Windstar driven by Shelton was estimated at $7,500.
Heisinger was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and failure to yield the right-of-way.
The collision took place shortly after 7:00 p.m.
It’s one of many collisions that’s taken place in that area over the past week or so, including one fatality. Road construction is underway in that area and the Iowa Department of Transportation is urging to motorists to drive with extra caution through the construction area, which runs from the North Y north to Milford. D.O.T officials say some adjustments are being made in the area of the north Y to try to improve safety in that area in light of the recent crashes there.
