North “Y” Crash

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A two-vehicle collision Thursday at the north junction of Highways 18 and 71 in north Spencer, or the north “Y”, resulted in minor injuries.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 43-year-old Kimberly Alexander of Spencer was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer southbound on Highway 71 approaching the intersection with Highway 18. Authorities say she changed lanes to pass slower traffic when she collided with a 2002 Dodge Caravan driven by 81-year-old Orville Taylor of Hartley who had pulled from a stop sign into Alexander’s path.

The impact of the collision caused the vehicle driven by Taylor to roll onto its roof. It was then pushed southwesterly coming to rest facing west.

Alexander and Taylor were both transported to Spencer Hospital with minor injuries.

$5,000 in damage was estimated to the Ford Explorer driven by Alexander; $1,000 in damage was estimated to the 2002 Dodge driven by Taylor.

Authorities say charges are pending against Taylor in connection with the crash.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, Spencer Police Department, Spencer and Fostoria Fire and Rescue, Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement and Maintenance and Spencer Hospital ambulance and paramedics.
