North Central Iowa Crash Claims Life Of A Spirit Lake Man

July 07, 2025

(Forest City)– A three vehicle collision Sunday on Highway 9 in Winnebago county of north central Iowa claimed the life of a Spirit Lake man.

The Iowa State Patrol says 21-year-old David Raak of Spirit Lake was driving a 2004 Honda, 64-year-old Daniel Raak of Spirit Lake was driving a 2010 Honda and 95-year-old LeRoy Weaver of Buffalo Center was driving a 2015 Buick Encore. Troopers say the motorcycles were westbound and the Buick driven by Weaver was eastbound. Authorities say the vehicle Weaver was driving crossed the center line and sideswiped the motorcycle driven by Daniel Raak. Weaver’s vehicle then collided head-on with the motorcycle driven by David Raak, who died in the crash.

Daniel Raak, Weaver, and a passenger on David Raak’s motorcycle, 21-year-old Kayla Hudelson of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, were all transported by ambulance to Mercy One North Iowa in Mason City.

The crash took place around 4:00 pm Sunday. Troopers say it remains under investigation.
