No Injuries Reported In Sprayer/Semi Trailer Collision

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)—Emmet county authorities say it’s a wonder no one was hurt last week when a freightliner and a self-propelled sprayer collided on Highway 15 four miles south of Armstrong.

The Sheriff’s Office says 49-year-old Jerry Roux of Fort Dodge was driving a 2013 Freightliner semi tractor-trailer southbound and was attempting to pass the sprayer, driven by 29-year-old Matt Blass of Estherville. Deputies say the semi trailer struck the left spray boom, which was folded, tearing a hole in the side and roof of the trailer. The sprayer left the road, went into the west ditch, and came to rest in a field.

Neither driver was injured.

Damage to the semi trailer was estimated at $10,000; the sprayer sustained about $100,000 in damage.

Authorities say the collision is still under investigation.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Armstrong Police Department, Armstrong Fire and Ambulance, Emmet County Conservation and the Iowa Department of Transportation Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division.
