(Spirit Lake)– No injuries were reported Saturday in an apartment fire in Spirit Lake.
Spirit Lake Fire Chief David Kollasch tells KUOO news firefighters were called to 310 Hill Avenue around Noon after getting a report of smoke coming from an upstairs apartment. Upon arriving Kollasch says firefighters encountered heavy smoke. He says they entered the apartment and wound up going into the attic to extinguish the fire.
Kollasch says damage was contained to the apartment.
He says the occupant was home at the time and managed to get out unharmed.
The cause is under investigation. A representative of the State Fire Marshall’s Office was expected to be on the scene early this week.
Firefighters were on the scene about an hour and-a-half.
Kollasch says the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Department was called to provide mutual aid assistance for additional manpower and a pumper. Several Spirit Lake firefighters were out of town at the time attending state fire school.
