No Injuries Reported In Sibley House Fire

November 01, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Sibley)– No injuries were reported in a fire early Tuesday in Sibley.

The Sibley Fire Department was called around 3:40 am to 1001 8th Street in Sibley and found smoke coming from the basement. Upon entry firefighters found the home full of smoke. Fire Chief Ken Huls says the occupants were able to get out safely thanks to a working smoke detector.

He says it appears someone threw a lit cigarette out of a window which started a log on fire, which was next to the basement window. Huls says the heat caused the glass in the window to break, and embers then got into the basement. He says the fire was contained to the basement, which had heavy damage.
