No Injuries Reported In Semi Vs. Train Collision

November 22, 2014

(Heron Lake, Mn.)– No injuries were reported Thursday when a semi collided with a train at a crossing northeast of Heron Lake.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says 59-year-old Ben Brummer of Westbrook was driving a 2006 International semi pulling a 2009 Wilson trailer loaded with corn. Deputies say Brummer was crossing some railroad tracks when a Union Pacific train collided with the trailer, tearing it in half. One part remained attached to the semi tractor; the other half was thrown into the south ditch. The semi tractor wasn’t damaged and no injuries were reported to Brummer. No damage was reported to the train.

Authorities say the crossing was adequately marked with signs.
The collision took place at a crossing on County State Aid Highway 24 just off Highway 60.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Heron Lake Fire Department and Ambulance and the Minnesota State Patrol.
