(Lake Park)– No injuries were reported Saturday in a corn crib fire on the northeast side of Lake Park. Fire Chief Brandon Ehret tells KUOO news they were called around 5:15 pm to 1781 130th Street…
“Showed up on the scene, had pretty good smoke, we had some flames in the corn crib. The residents had been burning some garbage in some burn barrels and it appears that an ember must have gotten up onto the roof or up inside somewhere and got the fire going. We were able to get the fire put out before it actually got the structure going real hard. Everything’s still standing there. It burnt some shingles off the roof and did some fire damage up inside up above. Like I said we were able to get it put out. Fortunately, usually, when them things go up, they go fast, they go hard. So we did actually keep it from going up completely. There was some buildings in very close proximity. It’s one of those older farm places, you know, where everything is stacked together, so luckily we were able to get it knocked out. It could have very easily gotten some other structures if it would have gotten a longer head start than what it had on us already.”
Ehret says some assistance was requested from some other departments in hauling water…
“We wanted to have a lot of water on hand just in case. We ended up cancelling Milford when they were enroute. Spirit Lake came up and sat on our porta tank for a little while. Once we got our water truck back from town we dismissed them and basically finished putting out the hot spots and rolled up the hoses and brought everything home.”
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office also assisted on the scene. Firefighters were there a little more than an hour.
