(Sioux City)– A Storm Lake has pled guilty in U.S. District Court to a methamphetamine charge.

24-year-old Juan Carlos Murillo-Figueroa was convicted of one count of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

At a plea hearing Tuesday, Murillo-Figueroa admitted his involvement in a conspiracy that distributed more than five grams of pure methamphetamine in the Storm Lake area from about 2011 through February 2012. On two occasions in November 2011 and in January 2012, Murillo-Figueroa distributed meth to individuals cooperating with law enforcement. During a traffic stop February 7th in Crawford county, officers searched Murillo-Figueroa’s vehicle and found multiple baggies containing methamphetamine. The DCI Crime Lab determined the baggies were holding a combined total of slightly more than 106 grams of pure meth. Murillo-Figueroa later stated that he had obtained atleast 8 ounces of the drug for distribution.

Sentencing will be held once a pre-sentence report is completed. Murillo-Figueroa was taken into custody by a U.S. Marshal and will remain in custody until sentencing.
