Several NW Iowa Counties Receive Presidential Disaster Declaration Due To Snow

November 22, 2014

(Washington, D.C.)– Several northwest Iowa counties have received a presidential disaster declaration due to the excessive snow we’ve received this season.

Cherokee, Clay, Emmet and Sioux counties are among those receiving the designation.

It makes them elibible to receive federal funds to help with recovery efforts. The funds are available to state, local and private non-profit organizations to repair or replace facilities damaged in the Christmas storm that took place from December 23rd through December 27th.

Federal Emergency Management Agency officials say additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by Iowa officials or warranted by damage assessments.

The National Weather Service reports Iowa this winter has received two to three times as much snow as in previous years.
