(Spencer)– A collision shortly after noon Wednesday in Clay county involving a car and a semi tractor/trailer sent two people to the hospital.
Authorities say 27-year-old Landon Burhoop of Dow City was driivng a 1994 Dodge Dakota and was attempting to set the cruise control. Upon looking up, Hantelmn saw the stopped semi and tried to stop, but collided with the trailer of the semi.
The impact of the crash caused the cab of the pickup to be sheared back into the passenger compartment. A passenger in the pickup, Skylor Rice, had to be extricated by crews with Dickens Fire and Rescue. Rice was then taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital and was later flown to a Sioux Falls hospital for further evaluation. Hantelman was also taken to Spencer Hospital with undisclosed injuries; no injuries were reported to Burhoop.
Authorities say neither Hantelman or Rice were wearing seatbelts.
Hantelman was cited for failure to maintain control and no seatbelt.
The pickup Hantelman was driving, owned by Agri Services of Northern Iowa, was totaled; five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the semi trailer owned by Panama Transfer, Incorporated.
The collision took place shortly after noon Wednesday.
