Maintenance Work Gets Underway On Dickinson County Trails System

May 08, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– Some maintenance work is getting underway on the Dickinson County Trails system. Erin Reed tells KUOO news the work got started today (Monday) with crack sealing along 252nd Avenue in Orleans. She says the work will continue over the next couple of weeks or so…

“About eight and a half miles of trail gets a crack seal and then we do a fog seal on our asphalt pavement that just puts a light coating of oil over it and makes it fresh again and protects the pavement. And then we have the 202nd Street trailhead over by the Nature Trails development in north Milford, we’re going to configure that parking area, re-pave the trail going straight north and then open up the parking so it’s a better access there.”

Surface preservation of the trail will be taking place at the south end of Milford going north through Henderson Woods in Arnolds Park. Asphalt sealing will take place on the Nature Center Trail and northern portions of the spine trail. Some concrete crack sealing is taking place on the West Okoboji, Pioneer Beach and Silver Lake trails, along with concrete panel replacements and manhole adjustments at various locations. Reed encourages everyone to stay away from the work areas…

“Please heed the barricades because you don’t want to get that oil on your tires or your bike because it sticks. So it’s very important that just leave them alone for a day and it cures out pretty quick. It’s just a few hours. Just turn around and go back.”
