ISU Extension Crop Advantage Series About To Get Underway

December 31, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Okoboji)– Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will once again hold its annual Crop Advantage Series at 12 different locations around the state throughout January. One of those is scheduled for Okoboji January 14th.

Gentry Sorenson, a Field Agronomist with ISU Extension and Outreach, says the sessions are an opportunity for farmers and crop advisers to hear current research and crop production information. He says several keynote speakers will be delivering the information at each location…

“Dr. Chad Hart will be there. He’ll be going over the ag market outlook. He’ll be one of our keynote speakers. He’ll be speaking about 10:00 in the morning. And then we’ll also have Dr. Erin Hobson there and she’ll be talking about soybean aphids. Those will be our two main topics that we’ll have in the morning.”

Sorenson says there will be a break for lunch, with some breakout sessions in the afternoon…

“We have kind of a wide range of topics dealing anywhere from weed control, tactics to manage water hemp, all the way down to managing soybean seeding rates and some information on tiling and water quality and getting into some of the information on nitrates and some of the diseases we might have seen in corn last year as well. Really a wide range of topics and it’s really kind of tailored that individuals can tailor their learning experience and maybe learn more of the things that they’re wanting to learn about for their farm or for their business that they choose to take back and learn and use next year.”

The cost is $75.00 person for those who sign up in advance…

“And we have early registration coming up for Crop Advantage in Okoboji on January 14th, and early registration deadline ends on January 7th. If you do sign up late or maybe if you have a change of plans, there is late registration and also online registration or on site registration and that’s $100. You can sign up any time, including walking in. Walk-ins are accepted and that’s $100 at that time.”

Sorenson says for an additional fee, there will also be opportunities at each location for pesticide applicator recertification. You can sign up online by clicking here, or in person at your local ISU Extension and Outreach County Office.
