Fire Destroys House In Sheldon; Cause Said To Be “Suspicious”

November 16, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Sheldon)– A fire Wednesday destroyed a house on the south side of Sheldon and officials say the cause is suspicious.

Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hindt says they were called to 1302 South 5th Avenue in Sheldon around 4:15 pm and found heavy smoke coming from the front of the house, with fire rolling across the ceiling on the main floor. Firefighters quickly attacked the fire and stood by to put out hidden fires and hotspots. They used an estimated 7,000 gallons of water and 25 gallons of foam.

Hindt says the cause is undetermined and is being ruled a “suspicious fire”. An investigation is ongoing.

No injuries were reported.
