(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake Police Department has now released details into that high speed pursuit we reported on earlier that originated in Spirit Lake and ended in a crash in Jackson, Minnesota a short time later.
A press release from Spirit Lake Police say it started shortly before 7:00 am when an officer tried to pull over a vehicle for a stop sign violation on 36th Street just east of Sunner Avenue. As the officer approached the vehicle, a woman got out and started to walk away. Police say the driver then took off eastbound on 36th Street before turning north onto Erie Avenue. It then turned east onto Highways 9 & 71 and went northbound on Highway 71 to Jackson at speeds in excess of 100 mph. After avoiding stop sticks south of Jackson, the vehicle continued into Jackson where the driver lost control. The vehicle went into the south ditch and collided with a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 71 and Bluff Avenue. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the driver of the struck vehicle sustained minor injuries and was taken to Sanford Jackson Medical Center.
The driver of the suspect vehicle that was the subject of the pursuit was identified as 21-year-old Samuel Origer, Jr. Earlier information from the Minnesota State Patrol indicated Origer, Jr. had a Colorado address, but he more recently is from Estherville.
In addition to the charges we reported on previously out of Jackson county, Origer, Jr. faces multiple charges filed by Spirit Lake police. They include eluding, 6 counts of failure to obey a stop sign, 7 counts of excessive speed, driving on the wrong side of the road, 2 counts of passing on the wrong side, failure to maintain control, no valid driver’s license, fraudulent use of registration and failure to provide financial liability.
