(Arnolds Park)– Two of four paintings chronicling Abbie Gardner’s story have been restored and will soon be back on display at the Abbie Gardner Cabin Visitors Center in Arnolds Park. The restorations were made possible by a $3,300 grant from the local Okoboji Queen Questers chapter, with the remaining 20 percent of the cost covered by donations. Maryanna Hubbard of Okoboji is a member of the organization…
She says they have since found another conservator and will be re-applying for a grant to restore the other two paintings. Hubbard goes on to explain what the restored paintings actually depict…
A historical marker installed by the local D-A-R chapter can be found at that site. Hubbard says the second restored painting depicts the final evening Abbie Gardner was being held captive…
The two restored paintings will delivered to the Abbie Gardner Cabin visitor center July 31st.
