(Spirit Lake)– One of the two newly-elected members to the Iowa Lakes Community College board of trustees says he’ll actively pursue two key priorities once his term starts in October.
Mike Prior defeated long-time incumbent and current board President Jack Tatman in Tuesday’s election.
Prior says term limits should be imposed upon board members to ensure “new blood, new visions, new ideas on that board consistently, especially in the age we’re in with technology and things, with K-12 institutions and community colleges changing very rapidly.”
Prior says he’s also going to do away with per-diems for trustees, saying they’re “elected to be there for the betterment of the institution and to see it to that it survives…not just to get a per diem for sitting on that board.”
And when it comes to budget cuts, Prior says they should start with the trustees own budget and work down from there.
Prior and another newcomer to the ILCC board of trustees, Bob Jennings of Algona, will both be sworn in at the board’s October 20th meeting in Estherville. Jennings defeated incumbent Lynn Kueck.
