First of all, tell us about the Mayor’s position, the council members, how often do they meet and where? “The city council meets once a month here at the Arnolds Park City Hall. The Mayor is Mike Mitchell. Council members are John Adams, Jason Christianson, Jim Jensen, Mike Koppert and Mitch Waters.”
What are some of Arnolds Park’s civic projects in the past several years that have sparked community pride? “In the past few years we’ve built two new bridges, that being Hinshaw Bridge and Sawmill Bridge; we’ve built a new city maintenance complex east of town; we’ve done several trails; we’re continuing some street projects that have been ongoing for 12, 15 years; we’ve done two rather large city park improvements with shelter house additions to Sawmill Park; a new shelter house at Abby Gardner; we’ve put up new city signs; it just seems like there’s all kinds of things that need to be done.”
What is on the docket for civic improvements you see this coming year? “We’re working on a plan, the Park Board is working on a plan for the main city park; they’ve razed the buildings there so there will be a new shelter house, new trail, new walkways, lighting, that sort of thing. We’re looking at plans for sidewalk and trail continuation on the east side of Highway 71 from where the sidewalk ends now north of Emerald Hills Golf Course to connect up with 202nd at the south end of Emerald Hills Golf Course; and we just finished a trail from Highway 71 by the Little League ball diamond to Henderson Woods. That was in cooperation with the Dickinson County Trails Association and a grant from the D.O.T”
