(Spencer)– The new President and CEO of Spencer Hospital is introducing herself to the area. Brenda Tiefenthaler tells us she has an extensive background in the healthcare industry…
“I grew up on a small farm in Fonda, Iowa, so I am an Iowa native so that’s good. I went to school in Omaha. I worked in the field of oncology when I was in Omaha. From there I went to the University of Iowa and did some bone marrow transplant and from there I came back to the area, worked at Fort Dodge Trinity Hospital in their Critical Care Department and then came back even closer to Spencer and I have been at Spencer Hospital for 23 years. I’ve worked in all kinds of positions at Spencer Hospital. I started out as a staff person and from there I went to a supervisor and then Director of the Cancer Center and up into the administrative team.”
Tiefenthaler goes on to explain what it was that led up to her applying for the President/CEO position…
“Honestly I was inspired just by the people. It is such a great healthcare team at Spencer Hospital. Everybody collaborates, works together. The mission of the hospital is to serve and I feel like everyone who works there from the staff level to the medical providers to the leaders, to the board of trustees, we’re all there for the right reason and that is to serve. I’m super proud to be a part of the organization and I feel a sense of responsibility to make sure that continues.”
Current President and CEO Bill Bumgarner will be retiring later this year. Tiefenthaler expects the transition will be a smooth one…
“Bill and I already work very closely together so we’ve kind of drafted a plan. I’ll be joining him and a few of his endeavors and kind of learning from him before November 10th and I think that it’s going to be a smooth transition for everybody involved.”
The transition occurs at a critical time as Spencer Hospital is currently undergoing an extensive renovation and relocation of its Emergency Department.
