New Person Will Oversee Long Term Flood Recovery Operations In Spencer

September 04, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– A new person will be overseeing the long term flood recovery operations in Spencer. Jessica Wright, who also serves as the city’s Human Resources Director, had been largely in charge of that previously. She told the city council Tuesday those duties are being transitioned to Sheriffa Jones, Director of the Spencer Chamber of Commerce, who has also been assisting in flood recovery efforts…

“There’s a lot of work that needs to be done over the coming months and even year. So I know Sheriffa will lead that charge really well. I’ll be on the Unmet Needs Committee so I’ll still be involved and connect resources where they may find a gap, and then Kevin will be on one of the committees as well. Otherwise it will largely move forward without government entities on the board itself, but made up of community members.”

Wright requested at a city council meeting last month that she either continue solely as H-R Director or solely as the long term flood recovery coordinator, saying she no longer could do both jobs simultaneously. At least one council member indicated at that time he would like to see Wright remain in the position to which she was originally hired.
