New Hearing Sought On Alliant Energy Rate Hike

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– Iowa’s Office of Consumer Advocate says the Iowa Utilities Board made a mistake that could give Alliant Energy $6.3 million more from its electric customers.

The board in December approved a rate increase of about 9 percent that would bring the utility about $114.8 million more in annual revenue. Alliant had sought 13 percent.

The consumer office said in a filing last week that the mistake was in calculating what the company could recover from electric customers for investments in a generating station in the Cedar Rapids area which was shut down after a flood in June of 2008. The consumer office wants the Utilities Board to hold another hearing.
