New Enrollment Projections For Okoboji Community School District Has Officials Looking At Possible Options

June 27, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– Representatives of the Spirit Of Okoboji Committee that gave the presentation at Monday’s Milford City Council meeting say a new enrollment study that was recently completed for the Okoboji Community Schools played a major role in what they would like to see accomplished.

As we reported earlier, the group presented plans for a 53-unit housing development on the site of the current Milford Airport. It would also include 25 acres of land at that site being donated to the Okoboji Community School District for a new elementary school. Superintendent Todd Abrahamson says the study indicates the Okoboji Community Schools will see enrollment soar to more than 1,400 students by 2027…

“My high school now is at max capacity, so it’s not just about a new elementary. I have to expand our high school. The reason for the ball fields and partnering with Parks and Rec and the city, one, it’s a great opportunity. We see more schools and communities doing that now. And second, our parking. We’ve outgrown our parking at the high school. So by moving the two ball fields and partnering with the Parks and Rec and the city, it expands our parking and the high school.”

Abrahamson says the district is truly at a crossroads right now and that the needs will have to be addressed very soon.
