Nebraska Company Purchases Former Simonsen Iron Works In Spencer

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)—A Thurston, Nebraska company is purchasing the former Simonsen Ironworks operation in Spencer. Thurston Manufacturing Company has assumed the operations of the company beginning today (Mon.).

The development follows a layoff of Simonsen employees last week by the company’s former owner. Officials with Thurston Manufacturing say they expedited the purchase process following that development. They say 30 of the 32 employees have been rehired under the new ownership, including Operations Manager Aaron Schultz.

Thurston Manufacturing Company, incorporated in 1971, designs, manufactures and markets Blu-Jet fertilizer injection and tillage equipment and Circle R Side Dump semi-trailers at its plant in Nebraska, which employs 160 employees.

Thurston Manufacturing Company CEO Layton Jensen says the purchase of the former Simonsen Iron Works in Spencer will allow the company to diversify and increase capacity.
