Natural Gas Leak Results In Portion Of Arnolds Park Being Evacuated

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A natural gas leak resulted in a portion of Arnolds Park being evacuated and traffic on a stretch of Highway 71 being re-routed today (Monday).

Jim Anderson of Black Hills Energy, formerly Aquila, tells KUOO news a construction worker accidentally cut into a two or three inch natural gas main in the area of Highway 71 and Carita Street (near Walker Insurance) shortly before 10:30 a.m.

Anderson says law enforcement cordoned the area off and traffic was routed around the scene while firefighters stood by crews repaired the line. He says several businesses and residences in that area were also evacuated as a precaution.

Anderson says the area was reopened two to three hours later when final repairs were made.

He says no injuries were reported and the repairs were made without any complications.
